About Jane

Jane Brotchie seated, smiling

I’ve spent over 30 years in Learning and Development, working as a learning designer, consultant, and now coach. I’ve supported people at all levels, from new starters finding their feet to senior leaders navigating big challenges, across NGOs, healthcare, environmental groups, and tech companies. During that time I have navigated my own course through the conflicting expectations of care and career that all working mothers face: what Dr Sophie Brock calls the Care/Career Conundrum where women are caught between the demands of paid work and motherhood. At some point in our lives most of us, mothers or not, will also find ourselves caring for a parent or relative whilst still of working age. I’ve been in that sandwich too, parenting teenagers and caring for parents whilst working.

Why coaching for transitions?

Change is what happens externally: moving house, getting a new job, becoming a mother, reaching 60... Transition is the internal process of adjusting to the change.

Many of us were raised to expect that adult life would be a steady ride: where experience steadily accumulates, and growth (personal and professional) is on a constant upwards trajectory. The reality is much less seamless; it is more like a series of choice points where we coast along and then suddenly we are brought up short with a new reality.

These are moments of heightened sensitivity that invite us to reconsider who we are, to reconnect with what matters and to make positive decisions about who we become next. Such transitions can be hard because they usually mean letting go of old ways of being to make room for what is coming next (or is already here).

My coaching offers a framework to help you navigate through these times, to allow yourself to unfold into your next chapter with confidence and excitement.
